Provides dental care and preventative treatments to patients registered at the Health Center sites and does related work as required. The dentist supervises the dental hygienist and dental assistant.
Essential Duties
- Provides dental care to patients of the health clinics
- Performs dental care and preventative treatment as part of an overall disease prevention and health maintenance program
- Supervises general dental care of patients given by dental hygienists and dental assistants
- Works primarily during business hours Monday-Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm except for the evening schedule
- Supervised by the Dental Director and participates in regular one-to-one supervision
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Graduation from a Dental School and possession of a valid license and a current registration to practice dentistry in New York State
- Training in infection control and CPR
- Education beyond the secondary level must be from an institution recognized or accredited by the Board of Regents of the New York Education Department as a post-secondary degree-granting institution
- Thorough knowledge of the field of dentistry
- Ability to plan and carry out dental treatment for patients
- Understanding of the role and mission of the District Health Office with the community
- Ability to relate well to staff members, patients, and members of the community
- Computer knowledge as related to dental software
