Provides dental care and preventive treatment to patients registered at the Health Center sites; does related work as required. Under the general direction of the Director of Dental Services, an incumbent of this position plans and carries out dental services for patients of the Health Center sites. Supervision is exercised over dental hygienist and dental assistant.
Essential Duties
- Provides dental care to patients of the health clinics as they relate to the dental care and preventive treatment as part of an overall disease prevention and health maintenance program.
- Supervises general dental care of patients given by dental hygienists and dental assistants.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes:
Thorough knowledge of the field of dentistry; ability to plan and carry out dental treatment for patients; understanding of the role and mission of the District Health Office with the community; ability to relate well to staff members, patients and members of the community; physical condition commensurate with the requirements of the position.
Qualifications
- Graduation from Dental School and possession of a valid license and a current registration to practice dentistry in New York State.
- Education beyond the secondary level must be from an institution recognized or accredited by the Board of Regents of the New York Education Department as a post-secondary degree-granting institution.
