Provides medical care to patients of the Health Center commensurate with his/her training and experience under the supervision of a physician of the Center. This position assumes responsibilities for medical care assigned to him/her by the physician under whose supervision he/she functions and which are within the scope of practice of the supervising physician appropriate to his/her education, training, and experience. The physician assistant is also under the supervision of the chief of the service that they are assigned to as well as the Chief Medical Officer.
Essential Duties
- Records, reviews, and interprets medical and social history and lab results
- Performs physical examination and assignment
- Obtains material for appropriate laboratory analysis
- Makes diagnosis and prescribes therapeutic regiments
- Screens walk-in patients to assess the need for immediate care or referral to other health personnel
- Administers medications and drugs
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant Training Program
- Basic knowledge of medical science; general knowledge of clinical medicine
- Learned skills in medical diagnoses and therapeutics
- Ability to relate well to supervising physicians and to interpret instructions properly
- Ability to communicate well with and relate well to colleagues and patients
- Good health
- Integrity
- 1- to 2 years experience in the field
- Basic computer skills required
- Registration by the State of New York as a registered Physician’s Assistant
- Must be able to work in a culturally diverse population
- Must be able to collaborate with other medical staff in a cordial professional relationship
- Must work in a professional manner with staff as well as patients (respect, privacy, and professionalism are paramount)
